12 Jan Mary “Blessed Art Thou Among Women”
This weekend we will celebrate “Mother’s Day” and the 100th anniversary of “Our Lady of Fatima”. I have always wondered, why do Catholics HONOR Mary? What is it about her that makes “The Church” hold her in such high esteem? As a 40-year Protestant, it just never made sense to me, because it was Christ who died on the Cross, not Mary. However, as a Woman and a Mother I found it very empowering to see how great she was within the Universal Church. I truly wanted to understand her phenomenon. Twelve years ago, in my search for why, the Holy Spirit showed me why “Mary” or should I say, The Blessed Mother, was so instrumental in God’s plan for salvation. As Christians we believe Creation started with Man but then He got a better idea and created Woman. Interestingly, it wasn’t until Woman was created that the evil one came into the garden. Clearly, he knew she possessed something that could and would destroy him. However, it wasn’t until after the fall of woman, thousands of years later that he would finally see how she “would” destroy him. Mary’s “YES”, to a child in her womb would change the course of history forever. So many ways to bring forth Man’s Redemption and God chose a woman’s womb! Yet, we as women and mothers have watched the woman’s movement destroy our greatest gift – “the womb”. I find it odd that the one thing that sets us apart from men is the very thing we have allowed ourselves to lose. The 60’s movement wasn’t ever about ripping our wombs out, it was about,” I Am Woman Hear Me Roar”! The truth of the matter is and as crazy as this statement might sound, The Church, has NOT been woman’s adversary, it has been her biggest Cheerleader through their acknowledgement of Honoring Mary who is Blessed Among Women and that is why for me “Mary” totally ROCKS!
